About British Classic Cars

There's something about a British classic that gets under your skin, and tends to stay there. The thump of an old straight-six on a cold morning, the smell of warm oil and leather seats with seventy years on them, the particular angle of an E-Type bonnet at idle. People who own one tend to keep on owning one. People who don't yet often spend years thinking about it.

British Classic Cars is for owners, buyers and enthusiasts: marque histories and model buyer's guides, the practical side of storage and transport, the insurance and regulatory questions every owner ends up with, and the small details that keep a car on the road instead of off it.

Whether you've just picked up your first MGB and you're trying to work out what the previous owner forgot to mention, or you've had the same Triumph in the garage since 1979, we hope you find something here that helps. Happy motoring.

What the site covers

Our scope is British classic cars, broadly defined: cars built in the UK or for the UK market, generally before the late 1990s, from the household names through to the smaller marques most people have heard of and a fair few they probably haven't. Jaguar, Ford UK (Capri, Escort, Cortina), Triumph, MG, Mini, Land Rover, Austin-Healey, Aston Martin, Lotus, Morgan, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, TVR, Jensen, Daimler, Wolseley, Riley, Sunbeam and the rest of the British classic world all sit in scope.

Alongside the marques, we cover the practical infrastructure around owning a classic: storage and transport, insurance and valuations, MOT and tax exemption, restoration trades, parts sourcing, clubs and registers, events and shows, driving experiences and wedding hire. The aim is one place you can start, regardless of which corner of the hobby brought you in.

How we work

Every page is written or reviewed against published sources we can point at: workshop manuals, period road tests, marque-club registers, manufacturer records, DVLA and HMRC guidance, auction results, and the deep back catalogue of the British classic-car press. Where a claim rests on a specific source, we point at it. Where the honest answer is "it depends" or "nobody really knows for sure," we say that too.

A note on where we are

The site is new and growing. The marque hubs and directories arrive in waves rather than all at once, and you'll find some sections fuller than others while we build out the back catalogue. If there's something missing you'd like to see covered, the contact page is the shortest path to telling us.
